Improving maternal and child health

Giving ethnic women access to safe care during childbirth and providing food, medicine and clean water for children is a priority of this project in Laos.

Working in 30 remote villages of Attapeu, Health Poverty Action improves the health of some 50,000 people, including more than 9,000 women.

Community volunteers are trained to continue improvements beyond the life of this project in collaboration with the Provincial Health Service and the Lao Women’s Union.

Remote communities benefit from…

  • training for Traditional Birth Attendants on safe delivery methods
  • health education to reduce mother and child deaths
  • immunisations, food and monitoring for malnourished children
  • clean water supplies and better latrines
  • health education on family planning and preventing and managing disease

Community Volunteers
Project staff regularly monitor the effectiveness of materials used by community volunteers to broadcast health education.

Child Nutrition

Malnourished children are identified and provided with better nutrition.
