Tom Hart: Mayan Priest
Tom Hart left the hustle and bustle of city life in London and headed for the rural and impoverished regions in Guatemala. He is now not only Health Poverty Action’s Guatemala country director, he is also a very popular Mayan priest. Read more about Tom’s story here
Fatuma Mohamed
Fatuma Mohamed is a Nurse and Midwife currently working with Health Poverty Action in Somaliland. She visited the UK in October 2011 to raise awareness about the poor health conditions in Somaliland.

Amelia
Amelia’s mother was a community midwife near the Rio Coco river on Nicaragua’s north eastern border with Honduras. She has seen many babies brought into the world with her mother’s help, as well as many tragedies.

Ayana
Ayana is from South Omo in Ethiopia, where she lives with a pastoralist community who regularly migrate with their livestock. She lives with her husband and young son and was eager to tell us how our health insurance scheme saved her life.

Betty
Betty has been a traditional birth attendant for 16 years, helping women to give birth at home in Sierra Leone as her village is far from a health centre. Since the free healthcare initiative was introduced, we have been training her as a maternal health promoter.
