The UN’s High Level Panel on Access to Medicines recently published a highly influential report. Whist not quite as radical as we would have liked, (you can read the analysis here) the report is nevertheless a positive leap forwards, and provides important recommendations that we need to demand the UK takes up. That means:
- Taking all legal means to ensure people have access to the drugs they need
- Legislating for full transparency so that the pharmaceutical industry has to publish what it spends and declare any public funds it receives.
- Ensuring public return on public investment.
- Working with other member states to establish a global research and development agreement.
Please write to your MP asking them to a) write to the Secretaries of State for Health and International Development asking them to set out how they will implement the Panel’s recommendations, and b) ask a question in parliament. Simply edit the email we have drafted for you!
