I would like to support Health Poverty Action’s work financially – what can I do?
There are many ways you can support our work. You can set up a direct debit, or make a one-off donation through this website. If you are feeling a little more active you could get involved in a fundraising event, such as hosting a curry night or even the London Marathon!
I would like to donate money to a specific project – can I do that?
Donations of £1,000 upwards can be given to a specific project. It’s worth remembering that donations towards our work in general are really important for Health Poverty Action. These can be spent where the need is greatest, helping communities that would otherwise have nobody else to turn to.
Does Health Poverty Action provide speakers to talk about its work?
Yes! We are able to provide speakers to give talks and take workshops on a variety of subjects to all kinds of audiences. For more information, get in touch.
How can my school/university/church get involved with Health Poverty Action’s work?
We love having groups involved with our work. There is a range of things you can be involved in such as fundraising in your local area, running a health heroes day at your school, or campaigning for us. We can provide you with everything you need.
Do you only work on healthcare projects?
We believe that a holistic approach is needed to make a difference in the countries where we work. Better healthcare cannot be achieved without reducing poverty, and poverty cannot be eliminated without better healthcare. Therefore our projects focus not only on healthcare but on other issues that affect it such as water sanitation and nutrition.
Why does Health Poverty Action spend money on campaigning?
At Health Poverty Action we believe that we need to tackle the causes of poor health as well as the symptoms. That’s why, as well as working alongside communities to help them access their right to health, we campaign. Campaigning can deliver lasting change for many more people than we could ever hope to help directly.
Can I volunteer with Health Poverty Action in the UK and overseas?
Health Poverty Action welcomes the valuable contribution that volunteers can make to an organisation. We are unable to host volunteers overseas, but there are occasional volunteering opportunities in the UK, mainly in our central London office.
How does Health Poverty Action spend its money – does it cost a lot to administer?
For every £1 raised, 96p goes towards our programmes. This means that as much of your money as possible is going to where it is needed most.
How do I get a job in international development?
There are many different ways you can get a job in international development. It largely depends on what you want to focus on, but most people start off by volunteering or getting involved in campaigning or fundraising with a particular organisation to gain experience.
I would like to work for Health Poverty Action – can I?
All of our jobs are advertised on our website in the jobs section.
Can I sponsor a child through Health Poverty Action?
Health Poverty Action does not run child sponsorship schemes. However, there are many other ways you can support some of the poorest and most marginalised communities that we work with.
Does Health Poverty Action work in emergency situations?
In the poor communities where we work, every day is an emergency – a constant fight for life and health against all the odds. The people in these areas might not be featured in global news bulletins very often, but in spite of that – or maybe in part because of it – their struggle for health continues amid problems of emergency proportions every day.
We are committed to doing all that we can, as quickly as we can, to end this unnecessary suffering and prevent these unnecessary deaths.
